The Education & Career Development programs prepare our Club kids for success in the professional world. From exploring potential careers and goal setting to developing basic educational disciplines and technological skills, our programs help establish a core set of skills and abilities that assist our Club members in continuing to grow into young adults with bright futures.
Power Hour is our homework club. Held in the Learning Center, members have a safe and inviting area to complete their school work. Our professional staff members are always on hand to assist with anything. If need be, the Club and Nantucket Public School will collaborate with one another, in order to make sure each child is getting the help they need to be successful. Members are rewarded for their time spent completing homework and educational tasks.
Money Matters teaches Club members aged 13 to 18 everything from budgeting and checking accounts to investing, saving, starting a small business and paying for college.
In Robotics tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by adult Coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research a real-world problem such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.
It all adds up to tons of fun while they learn to apply science, technology, engineering, and math concepts (STEM), plus a big dose of imagination, to solve a problem. Along with their discovery journey, they develop critical thinking and team-building skills, basic STEM applications, and even presentation skills, as they must present their solutions with a dash of creativity to judges. They also practice the Program’s signature Core Values.

Summer Brain Gain
Summer Brain Gain youth are engaged in a process of learning through discovery, creative expression, and collaborative group work that evolves into a final project or production. The role of Club professionals will be to support, facilitate, and guide program participants in a manner more like a mentor or coach, rather than a teacher. Therefore, Club members are the program’s drivers and are highly engaged in both learning and fun.
