Program Assistant

Primary Functions

To assist, under the direct supervision of the Program Director in planning and implementing current and new programs of the Nantucket Boy’s and Girl’s Club, as well as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America programs for members.

Key Roles

  • Introduce recreational and educational programs.
  • Encourage member participation in Club activities.
  • Assist the Program Director in selection of boys and girls who, because of special needs, are to be recommended to the proper referral agency.
  • Respond appropriately to behavior issues as a professional in youth development.
  • Be responsible for daily maintenance of program areas.
  • Focus on safety of members with supervision and structured activity.

During summer months, the position shifts as a camp counselor with a variety of tasks separate from school year

High energy level, comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities; superior interpersonal skills; ability to get along with diverse personalities; tactful, mature; flexible.  Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.  Excellent oral and written communication skills. Maintain close, daily contact with staff and supervisors. Mandated reporter.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Experience and knowledge of youth development
  • Ability to mentor and motivate youth
  • CPR and First Aid certified

Physical Demands

  • Ability to continuously stand or walk.
  • Ability to bend, squat, climb stairs and lift frequently
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to be outdoors during all seasons

Important Notes

Must be available to work until 8:00pm and on weekends, including teen nights. You must be flexible as determined by the needs of the program.

Development Internship, Summer, 2020

Key Responsibilities and Expectations of Internship Applicant

To assist, under the direct supervision of the Program Director in planning and implementing current and new programs of the Nantucket Boy’s and Girl’s Club, as well as the Boys & Girls Clubs of America programs for members.

Dates & Hours needed

  • June 1, 2020 (or earlier) through the Tim Russert Summer Groove, which is on August
    15, 2020. Must be available to work this major fundraising event .
    ● Typical work weeks will consist of three, eight hour days, totaling 24 hours per week.
    ● Must be flexible around events such as the Sam Sylvia Golf Tournament, and the Tim
    Russert Summer Groove, when hours may exceed 24 per week.

Communication and Public Relations

  •  Manage social media outlets keeping in line with Club mission and values.
    ● Create, organize and maintain social media calendar and monthly newsletter.
    ● Design and prepare printed materials needed for events and general distribution, as
    related to fundraising, using various design formats and digital data

Events

● To work as part of the Development team during the Sam Sylvia Golf Tournament and
Tim Russert Summer Groove
● Assist with the organization and management of ticket sales, auction/raffle items, printed
materials and more.
● Assist with promotion of auction/raffle items and events via a mobile bidding platform.

Qualifications

● Must be highly organized, self motivated and be able to situationally improvise.
● Must be skillful and knowledgeable in all aspects of social media, and proficient in the
computer skills needed for the design of various printed materials.
● Should be interested in serving the community, childhood education, and fundraising on
behalf of children.

Key Responsibilities of Supervisor

● To train Intern properly to perform the tasks that are being asked of them.
● To be available and open to answering questions about the tasks at hand, and the Club
in general at all times.
● To give adequate notice of schedule changes (one week minimum).
● To provide an environment geared towards education, where the Intern receives
valuable workplace knowledge.
